Why screenshots are so hard to work with
Screenshots compress a layered design into one flat image. That makes them easy to share and impossible to edit. If you need the hero photo from a landing page screenshot, you don't get the photo — you get the photo with the headline, CTA button, and dark gradient baked on top.
The typical workflow looks like this:
- Crop the region in a photo editor and eyeball the pixel boundaries.
- Remove the background if the image needs to float on a new layout.
- Paint out overlays — text, badges, buttons — with generative fill or clone stamping.
- Upscale the result because the screenshot resolution is rarely enough for a production site.
- Repeat for every other image in the screenshot.
For a homepage with six or seven images, that's an hour of mechanical work before you can start designing.
What batch screenshot extraction should look like
The faster approach is to treat the screenshot as a map, not a source file. You mark every image you want once, and the extraction tool handles the cleanup for each region at the same time.
A purpose-built batch workflow does four things in one pass:
- Accurate crop at the exact boundary you draw, so logos keep their proportions and hero photos keep their framing.
- Overlay removal — text, buttons, badges, and gradients are erased and the background behind them is reconstructed.
- Background removal when you need a transparent PNG for a new layout.
- Upscaling to production resolution so the extracted image looks native in a 1440-wide hero or retina display.
The output is a folder of clean PNGs you can drop straight into Figma, Webflow, WordPress, or a custom build.
How to extract images from a screenshot with Arturo
- Upload the screenshot. PNG, JPG, or any full-page capture works.
- Draw a box around each image — hero, product shots, logo, icons, team photos. Select or deselect boxes as you refine the set.
- Choose cleanup per box. Remove text, strip UI elements, make the background transparent, or upscale. Arturo applies the right combination for each asset.
- Review RAW and CLEAN versions side-by-side and re-run cleanup on anything that needs another pass.
- Download the ZIP with all clean images, plus fonts, colors, and copy extracted from the same screenshot.
The whole process takes a few minutes for a full-page screenshot, not an hour of switching between apps.
When this matters most
Redesigning an existing site
You have a screenshot of the current site and need to reuse the imagery in a new design. Extract the photos, logos, and icons cleanly instead of hunting through old asset folders.
Working from a client reference
A client sends a screenshot of a competitor or inspiration site and says "something like this." Pull the actual images out so you can build from real assets instead of guessing.
Building from an AI-generated mockup
AI mockup tools output a screenshot-like image. The layout looks right, but nothing is separated. Batch extraction turns that flat image back into usable pieces.
Archiving or repurposing marketing pages
A campaign page is being retired, but the imagery still has value. Extract the assets in one pass before the page comes down.
What you get at the end
A clean image package, not a flattened file. Each asset is cropped, cleaned, and upscaled as needed. You also get the closest Google Font match, the color palette, and the page copy alongside the images — all from the same screenshot.
